What are the guidelines for wedding shower/wedding gift giving?

wedding gift

I will be attending a friends shower as well as their wedding. Should I give a small gift from their registry at the shower and a bigger gift at the wedding or just one gift at the wedding?

  1. I would do exactly what you said. Two gifts. one small one larger.

  2. In my experience that a gift is generally expected at both, but at the shower, it doesn’t have to come from their registry, since often registries are more expensive items. One of my coworkers just got married on May 17- and most everything was pretty pricey on her registry, so for her shower I just went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got a smaller gift, not from any registry.

  3. Your idea is fine. I would attend the shower with the appropriate gift and then give money at the wedding if there are 2 of you attending go with 150-200 dollars.
    Best of luck

  4. I usually buy a gift from the registry for the shower and give cash for the wedding gift, but a gift they registered for as a wedding gift is also very nice. Good luck!

  5. Traditionally, the shower is for the bride only, and therefore, so is the shower gift. And the gift is supposed to be a little more personal than a wedding gift. If your shower is for both the bride and groom, I would suggest maintaining the spirit of the tradition by giving small, individual gifts to each of them. For the wedding, you give a larger, joint gift to the couple (which may or may not come from the registry).
